Planning across Canada's holiday differences

In Canada, statutory holiday planning depends on province, sector, and employment context. A date that is a normal business day in one province may be treated differently elsewhere, which can create hidden risk in cross-province programs. A wallplanner format helps teams quickly spot where public and statutory observance patterns reduce available working windows.

For practical use, finance teams can align period-end tasks with lower-risk weeks, while legal and compliance teams can sense-check timelines tied to business-day definitions. Project and operations teams can also identify months where holiday concentration narrows execution capacity and adjust delivery sequencing accordingly. Putting these patterns in one annual view makes it easier to avoid deadline slippage before plans are approved.

Frequently asked questions

Which holidays are included in the Canada wallplanner?

All federal public holidays plus each province and territory's local observances (Family Day, St. Jean Baptiste Day, Discovery Day, Nunavut Day, Louis Riel Day, etc.). The calendar displays holidays from all 13 provinces and territories, with jurisdiction badges showing which provinces observe each regional holiday.

Are shutdown periods like the Federal Court recess or Quebec construction holidays shown on the wallplanner?

The wallplanner focuses on public holidays and cultural events. Shutdown periods (Federal Court Seasonal Recess, Quebec construction holidays, corporate closures) are not displayed here, but they are available in the main Working Day Calculator where you can select them to exclude those periods from deadline calculations.

Where does the holiday data come from?

We use the python-holidays library with manual verification against Service Canada, the Canada Labour Code, and each provincial/territorial employment standards office. All 13 provinces and territories are supported with their unique public holidays.

Can I export the calendar to PDF or ICS?

Absolutely. The Export to PDF button generates a printer-friendly annual view, while Export to ICS lets you import filtered holidays into Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or any iCalendar-compatible application.

Is this useful if my company operates across multiple provinces?

Yes. The wallplanner shows how holidays and shutdowns vary across Canada so you can coordinate national teams, plan payroll cycles, schedule shipping cut-offs, and avoid conflicts when team members observe different provincial holidays.

Why aren't school holidays included for Canada?

Education in Canada is provincial jurisdiction with 13 separate systems, and many provinces have regional school boards with different calendars. There's no central authority or single authoritative source for nationwide school holiday data. We focus on public holidays and shutdown periods where official data is available.
